DLP LAW OFFICES SPONSORSHIP AWARD — NOVEMBER 2022
CIDER PAINTERS OF AMERICA, MAINSTREET GALLERIES, KINGSTON, PA

Some paintings sell the minute they become available, while others need to seek out just the right collector. A still life miniature is an unusual subject for Linda and may not necessarily appeal to her customary collector base, but it sure seems to charm judges when it comes to awards. Out of the three shows this little piece has appeared in, this is the second time it has been recognized for an award. This time Odd Man Out received the DLP Law Offices Award at Cider Painters of America’s 39th International Miniature Art Show. As with any award received, Linda is as pleased as punch!

# 1 PRIZE WINNER AT OHIO VALLEY ART LEAGUE’S 14th BIENNIAL
KENTUCKY NATIONAL WILDLIFE ART EXHIBITION - OCTOBER, 2022
PRESTON ARTS CENTER, HENDERSON, KENTUCKY

It was an exciting day for Linda when she was notified that her painting Golden Hour was chosen for the Number One Award at this year’s Kentucky National Wildlife Art Exhibition by juror Marie McGhee, Director of the Art Institute at the Sonora Desert Museum. Out of hundreds of submissions, only 59 pieces were juried into this biennial event, and Linda is delighted that her painting of an Eastern Chipmunk garnered top honors. Rather than awards given in order of 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place, they represent contributing supporters by a chosen name and dollar amount.

This year’s top award, the Ronald David Smith Memorial Award, was presented by the Ronald Smith Family in the amount of a $2,000 contribution in support of the arts and Kentucky National Wildlife Art Exhibition. While the awards were presented in October, the show will continue online and in person through November 29th.

Exhibition still available for viewing HERE. You must scroll down.

ONE SHOW, TWO AWARDS - SEPTEMBER 2022
COUNCIL FOR THE ARTS, 39th MINIATURE ART 2022 CHAMBERSBURG, PA

Butterfly Kisses

Autumn in the Barrens

Most miniature art shows grant only one award per artist, but others like Council for the Arts, recognize award winners by the quality, composition and masterful handling of the media that allows for multiple awards to a singular artist. Linda only submitted two paintings to this annual event and out of nearly 200 entries both of Linda’s paintings were selected for Honorable Mention awards.

PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARD - JULY 2022
HEARTLAND ART GUILD, 17th INTERNATIONAL MINIATURE
PAINTINGS & SCULPTURE ART SHOW, PAOLA, KANSAS

Unfortunately this painting didn’t sell at Heartland Art Guild’s miniature art show, but when Linda opened the returned artwork box, she surprisingly discovered a yellow ribbon inside. Unbeknownst to her, she had received the People’s Choice Award for Butterfly Kisses!

Do you remember enjoying the beauty of many monarch butterflies as a child? Nowadays you would be hard pressed to see just one. The migratory monarch butterfly has recently been classified as “Endangered,” and now appears on the Red List of Endangered Species by the Union for Conservation of Nature. Between climate change and deforestation, the species of Monarch butterflies is teetering on extinction. What can you do to help this species along? Plant milkweed! Milkweed is not only the food of choice for Monarch caterpillars, it is the only plant where this butterfly will lay its eggs.

FIRST PLACE AWARD - JULY 2022
PARKLANE GALLERY, 30TH INTERNATIONAL MINIATURE ART SHOW,
KIRKLAND, WASHINGTON

There’s nothing more relaxing than watching the sun come up over a dew-laden cow pasture, while at the same time filling your senses with the fragrance of blooming trees and clover. This was the experience Linda had while on her way to her studio one morning, and there was no question that she needed to paint this special moment while it was still fresh in her mind. She worked tirelessly for days on end in order to meet the deadline for Parklane Gallery’s Annual International Miniature Art Show. And she’s sure glad she did, because not only did Morning Light win First Place, but it was one of the first pieces to sell on opening day!

BEST OIL/ACRYLIC AWARD - MAY 2022
SEASIDE ART GALLERY INTERNATIONAL MINIATURE ART SHOW, NAGS HEAD, NORTH CAROLINA

This year marked the 30th anniversary for Seaside Art Gallery’s annual miniature art show. Submissions came from across the United States and Canada, Europe, United Kingdom, Israel, South Africa, and Australia, making a total of 350 tiny treasures that filled the walls of the gallery with their charm. For a judge to choose just 16 outstanding pieces for awards from this amount of entries is not an easy task. But Linda’s painting Pond Dweller was among the works selected for this honor and was presented with the Best Oil/Acrylic Award.

THIRD BEST IN SHOW - MARCH 2022
SPANISH MOSS 13TH JURIED MINIATURE FINE ARTS SHOW, MOBILE, ALABAMA

Imagine Linda’s surprise and delight when she was informed that her miniature Dune Walker, had been awarded Third Best in Show at the Spanish Moss Miniature Fine Arts Show, held in March in Mobile, Alabama. When entered in a miniature art show, miniature paintings are usually restricted to similarly small-sized mats and frames. AMAS’s Spanish Moss exhibition puts a new twist on the matter with its lack of frame restrictions, allowing for larger mats and frames to better spotlight the miniature paintings. Although the painting must be no larger than 25 square inches, the frame can measure up to 90 square inches.

When judging an art show, the quality, composition and use of the media is paramount: however, should there be a tie, judges will often consider the presentation of the entire package before the award is given. For this painting of a Mourning Dove ambling along the sands of a dune, Linda's frame choice reflects that of bleached driftwood. The mats mirror the warm sand and the dusty blue of the dove’s wings. Dune Walker may be tiny, but it's overall presentation is a big, bold and elegant award winner!

PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARD, MINIATURES IN MARIPOSA — MARCH 2022
SIERRA ARTISTS GALLERY, MARIPOSA, CALIFORNIA

When an artwork is judged as an award winner that’s one thing. But when the public has the opportunity to select their favorite piece in a show, it is the highest compliment an artist can receive. Butterfly Kisses was voted as the favorite by people who visited The Elizabeth Specht Memorial Miniatures in Mariposa’s annual show.

The miniature painting depicts an endangered Monarch butterfly sipping nectar from a vibrant tithonia flower. Also known as a Mexican sunflower, tithonia thrive in the Southwest and during hot weather periods if planted in the North. This, along with the greenery of the piece makes it the perfect welcome to spring. The visiting public of Mariposa’s show must agree because it brought home the People’s Choice Award.

FIRST PLACE FOR INTERIOR OR STILL LIFE — JANUARY 2022
MINIATURE ART SOCIETY OF FLORIDA

Linda often paints images of movement, from vast landscapes with rippled water to animals with wind blowing through their fur. As a result, painting a still life for Linda is rare, so you can imagine her surprise when she learned she had won First Place for Interior or Still Life for Odd Man Out at the 47th Annual Show of the Miniature Art Society of Florida. This is one of the largest miniature shows in America where the number of artworks on display average in the 700s. This year there were 25 categories and 50 awards given. For Linda, to be among these prize winners was truly an honor indeed for a subject she seldom paints!

“This little painting came about when my husband walked into our kitchen with his mother’s old enamel colander filled with cucumbers and one tomato. I couldn't resist immediately setting things up on an antique drop leaf table in our hall where the light was gently illuminating its surface. Not quite knowing where to place the tomato I just put it down and walked away to retrieve my camera. When I returned I thought, hmmm, that tomato is the odd man out, hence this painting’s title.” LR
