Only if you have been to Africa can you truly understand it's size, its emotional power, and the hold it can have on you. Even though I travelled through only a very small area of this vast continent, I returned home feeling overwhelmed by what I had experienced. Confused and torn, I didn't know where to begin or what to paint first. I finally decided to paint it all -- the sky, the land, the animals -- in one painting, and I broke every rule by developing the composition in halves. Look carefully, and you'll discover blue sky and rain, flowers among dead grasses, mountains behind the plains, and so on. I'll let you explore on your own to search out the many other halves awaiting your discovery!
